The Legend of SOULMAN

Sometimes you read a story that would seem to defy reality, but is just so crazy that it couldn’t have possibly of been made up.  The legend of Soul Man is one such story.

It all began one unusually sunny summer afternoon in Philadelphia.  In a downtown hospital, a first time mom to be was awaiting the arrival of her new baby boy.  Wouldn’t you know it that on the brightest day in history, the newborn baby was delivered wearing a pair of black sunglasses!  Surely this had to be a sign of things to come for the kid who would later be known simply as SOULMAN.

SOULMAN was a very active baby.  In fact, it is said that he could dance before he learned how to walk.  This little Soul baby was not about to let the restraints of childhood slow him down.  It wasn’t long before he started to take an interest in music.  He managed to learn how to play the harmonica, guitar, and saxophone all before the age of two.

SOULMAN started to walk around town playing random tunes to entertain his neighbors.  SOULMAN was walking down the sidewalk playing music one day and a strong breeze blew by, causing him to drop his saxophone.  When he went to go pick it up, he noticed something sticking out from underneath a bush.  It was a black hat.  What a strange find! That didn’t stop SOULMAN from putting it on.  He checked himself out in a nearby shop window and dug what he saw.  With the sunglasses and his new hat, SOULMAN had discovered his trademark style.

It didn’t take long before SOULMAN was on the road playing concerts for large audiences.  People were flocking to go see him, and man could he work a crowd.  There was no slowing SOULMAN down. 

When SOULMAN’s tour came around to his hometown of Philadelphia, the front office of the newly formed Philadelphia Soul organization took notice.  They knew a good thing when they saw it.  What better person to have lead the fans of the Philadelphia Soul than a wild and crazy rock n roller who knows how to rile up any crowd.  It was a match made in heaven.  Who would have thought that the little baby born wearing sunglasses would end up as the symbol for Philadelphia’s newest team?  It must have been fate.

SOULMAN can be seen all over Philadelphia playing his music and  sharing his vibe with the people who crowd around to watch SOULMAN do what he does best.  Whether it is the Philadelphia Zoo or even the Philadelphia  Museum of Art, SOULMAN’s purpose and passion is to bring smiles to the faces of all that go out to see him.  SOULMAN is quickly becoming a Philadelphia icon.
